当今世界，我们正呈现一种整体化，世界化和多极化趋势不断发展，世界文化交流的不断融合与交流使各国，各民族间的联系愈发紧密，传统的生活方式受到不同文化不同方面的挑战实际上是一种必然。
我认为首先的一点原因就是西方文化与思维的进入使传统生活方式面临挑战。
随着经济不断发展，我国的现代工业体系实际上也是一种在我国国情基础上西方工业社会的某种再现，所以传统的生活方式如省吃俭用，日勤克俭等会与商品经济不断发展所需要的大量的消费需求背道而驰，西方文化中自由开放的文化，如曾经一度的亚文化运动，“跨样的一代”的种种杰克凯鲁亚克式的自我认同使人们不断反抗传统的生活方式，追随朴素自然的内心认同，这样文化的传入使传统的保守的生活方式受到挑战，人们不再自我保守式的偏居于自己的三点一线的生活，更多的追求自我的精神和开放的意识。
同时，更重要的原因是原来的生活方式在受到挑战后不断自我重组革新，使传统生活方式面临挑战。
原本的生活方式在中国长期的儒家思想，中庸思想的影响下趋于一种稳定的缺少变革的传统生活方式，而西方则经历了从现代到后现代的重要的从思想到生活方式的大变革，人们传统的思维方式与生活方式由原本的“求中保和”的中庸态度逐渐演变为了尼采所说的现代人“厌烦与躲闪”的消极生活方式传统生活方式被迫重组与革新，它们不再追求普通而平庸的生活模式，而是转向一种从传统走向现代的重组，传统生活中消极的部分不得不革除而好的的诠释则会与新的适应的生活方式面临挑战。
